Hello from 90 mile beach – Mecca !
Wednesday morning 7am I picked Roger, shot around to work and picked up my ladder and then headed home to starting packing.
Darren and Clem arrived just after 8am. We all packed my car and started on our day journey north to Mecca. We went up the east coast of the country via Bay of Islands and had fish and chips at one of the many sea ports.
We pulled into 90 beach camp at 7.30pm. We quickly unpacked Rogers large tent and tried to assemble it as it got dark. After a few mistakes we work out which went were and bedded down for the night.
In the morning two Bill and Alan were in their car asleep along side. We pulled together our yachts, packed up our gear and headed down the beach at 11.30am.
It was a small tide and with a low depression over the country the beach was not very wide our as hard as normal.
We raced all afternoon. Darren and Clem getting 1st & 2nd in all of the races with myself, Roger & John battling it out. Ken teeboon had his big class 3 out and I gave Storm my spare Class 5 to race with.
We had many races, until we were all race out. We then had a race 10km up the beach to the 2nd river. All stopped and raced back. Roger and myself spent the rest of the day tuning our yachts.
Late in the day Phil & Jason rolled in. Vehicle one had blown up and they had to drive back a couple of hours to get another vehicle to make the trip.
Also Richard turned up after some vehicle repair and a warrant of fitness.
7.00pm we headed back up to the house. What an awesome day!
