OHOPE BEACH SAND SAILORS
Sunday the 24th September 2006
Day Four
Hello New Zealand
Sorry this report is late however with sailing sessions in the morning and the afternoon, and then events in the evening, sleep time is becoming presious and I did not get to do this report until this Luchtime on the 25 Sept.
Sunday Morning Sailing report (24th)
We all headed down to the beach at 7am. It is very dark here and sunrise is not until 8am. The wind was blowing however by the time the Standarts lined up to start at 8am this was only blowing 2 knots. They started about 9am however the wind faided and after 10 minutes of pushing the official yellow flagged the course. We took the class’3 out and started after an hour. Wow, off the start line and I was buried in yachts. Can theses guys push their yachts! I had better learn to start a lot better! After 20 minutes of pushing the official finial yellow flagged the race. Rain showers kept coming in, however there was no wind within the rain. The tide came in and we were forced off the beach.
FISLY annual general assembly.
16 Countries attended. The agenda was followed and all the countries worked well together to work through normal yachting housework.
There was a BIG surprise when they got to the finials report. New Zealand is supposedly a Full Voting Member which cost 480 Euro per year to keep($1000 New Zealand per year). This goes back to a meeting in 2002 were NZ and USA supposedly agreed to become a full member. Therefore since then we have had to supposedly to pay $1000 per year for this membership. 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 = $4000 New Zealand Dollars outstanding.
I am now asking for reemits for the AGM at Ohope in November, the above item will be one the main item on the agenda. Please email me any other discussion points for the agenda that you would like to discussed. I will send out the Notice of AGM as soon as I get back to New Zealand next week. nz777(at)ohope.co.nz
Sunday Afternoon Sailing Report.
We rigged, we talked, we de rigged, we partied, we went to sleep.
Monday Morning.
Again we got up at 6am, everyone meet at breakfast and then headed for the club in the dark and pouring rain. We rigged; and then we waited, and waited, and waited. The tide came in and I am now back at the Hippotel writing this report. In a few minutes I am to leave, at 1.30pm I am NOW going to go and listen to today’s FISLY meeting. I need to learn more about this organization and how it works and what and how it affects use in New Zealand. ie competing in the 2008 Patagonia Worlds.
Also
Our country can only take so many sailors in each class (six, eight or ten) and you might only be allowed to run one type of yacht if they are running two course. Will let you know details as they come to hand. For example, out of the 75,000 people sailing land yachts here in France, only the best 10 sailors are representing France here at this contest.
Well better run.
Rain clearing, and wind starting to build.
Our next race start is planned race for 7pm tonight.
Have some really good news’s about container transportation to Patagonia.
Bye
