Yo Graham,

Ohiwa beach is awesome. The high seas of the last few months have eaten away all that soft sand that has been building up for years and produced the most amazing landsailing venue in this side of 90mile beach. We arrived there two hours before low tide and the beach was wider than I have seen it for ten years. By the time Darren and I had rigged up a light easterly wind came up and we were sailing.

Graeme Faulkner and Roger Gosbee had made the trip over from Tauranga and had also just got on the beach. We had half an hour of light wind sailing and then the wind stopped dead and we were all off pushing. We did not have to wait long though as 15 minutes later the wind came back from the opposite direction as forecasted but was still quite light. The beach was so wide we were able to do very long tacks up and down wind. A very pleasant day at the beach. Ohiwa beach is hot! Lets hope for more wind next time.
