OHOPE BEACH SAND SAILORS
- NEWS -

It is 6am on the last day, and this is the first day there has been a soft breeze in the morning. The depreciation must have traveled north overnight. We have a local forecast today of 15 knots on the lake this afternoon.

Yesterday we rocked up to a 10am pilots meeting. No wind.
Phil asked for witness to the incident which has left him with a DSQ in one class5 race. One Aussie spectator came forward with new evidence and the protest committee reversed the dsq. Phil is back in the running; however I have heard that the Aussie witness has 24 hours to leave country and never come back.

The blokarts were a no show today other than a few hardies. The majority of there fleet have headed to the closest beach on the coast (Esperence, due South from here)

By 2pm the wind threatened to blow so the Class 4’s lined up. We pushed off in 3 to 5 knots of breeze and drifted around the course. The wind faded and no further racing was possible.

At the Kambalder Country Club the kiwi land yachters put on a skit and a couple of party challenges to the other competing pilots. It seemed to keep everyone amused for a few hours. Special thank to everyone who leant us the bits and pieces.

Well time is getting close to time for me to grab breakfast, watch the sun come up and then head out to the lake for a 9am pilots briefing. The plan today is to do a special Enduro race around a small part of the lake then this afternoon the big finally bathtub race. Not quite sure if they are going to race Class5 again this morning as half the field packed up last night and are heading home.

John and I will start to construct our bathtub yacht between races today. We have a steel bathtub and minimal parts and machinery so it might be a number eight piece of wire job at the last minute as we push something out to the starting line. (Kiwi Pride at stake, so we still have to beat the Aussies around the track!)

The enduro race plan is the attached picture to the right. It is unbelievable race course for a Ohopian land yachtiee that normally has water on one side, and 30meters on the other side, sand dunes. The lap is approximately a 35km lap in a straight line, so if it blows I imagine the Class3&4 will do three laps, Class5 two laps and the Blokarts and mini’s one lap. There is a trophy for each class one the line, and when you sign up, you have to nominate just one class. I have no idea what I am going to race today. I do not have the most boat speed in any of these classes, I’m just consistent around the race track in my placings, so I will see what my mood is like during briefing. Either comfort (class 3), speed and fear (class 4 wing & flap) or difficulty and pain (class5). .
What class would you race?

Prize giving and a big catered dinner tonight,
So last report will be tomorrow morning before we repack the container.

Until then, have a happy Saturday afternoon in Kiwi land.
